Providence nimi tulee latinasta, provedentia, joka tarkoittaa näkemistä tulevaan. Kaupungin nimesi Roger Williams 1636. Hän koki jumalallisen näyn, Jumalan jatkuvasta läsnäolosta maassa ja täten Providence oli sopiva paikka hänelle ja hänen seuraajilleen asettua.

Kaupungin lempinimiä ovat: 
Luova pääkaupunki, Teollisuuden mehiläispesä, Renesanssi kaupunki, Jumalallisen tai enteellisen näyn kaupunki.

Motto on todella outo: " Mikä hilpeys?"

The name Providence originates from the Latin word providentia meaning seeing ahead, first named by Roger Williams in 1636 in the sense of divine providence relating to God's constant presence on Earth. He believed this was responsible for revealing such a haven for him and his followers to settle.

Providences nicknames are:
The Creative Capital, Beehive of Industry, the Renaisance City, the Divine City

Ostin käytetyn pyörän melko halvalla. Se ei ole häikäisevän hieno, mutta se kuljettaa minut paikkoihin. Se antaa tietynlaisen  vapauden tunteen ja  laajentaa maailmaani täällä.
